Gan Israel prides itself on its exceptional staff. All staff come with prior camp experience and a desire to work with children. Bunk sizes are kept small and well staffed. Camper to counselor ratio is 1 to 6, and that is not including our C.I.T's.

Our affiliation with the world wide Chabad educational network allows us access to young men and women who are interns in the field of Jewish education.  We bring in these college age men and women from around the world and provide housing in Swampscott for the summer.  Who benefits from this?  Your child.  Our counselors are not doing this as a summer job. These are individuals dedicated to Jewish outreach and will have a positive effect on your child for years to come. Our staff also provides extra programming throughout the summer in the form of Shabbat services for children at Chabad.

We take great pride in our commitment to recruiting, training and keeping the highest quality staff in the camping profession. Over the years, Camp Gan Israel of the North Shore has always been dedicated to small groups with exceptional staff supervision. This ensures the best possible care, instruction and supervision for our campers. Our counselors are highly trained, dedicated, and experienced.

Aliza Friedman has many years of day camp experience. She has directed Jewish day camps across the world including Dublin Ireland, Helsinki Finland and Boca Raton, FL (no, we are not kidding about Dublin and Helsinki)

She is the leader of our top notch staff and takes great pride in our on-going, comprehensive staff training program. Her extensive experience with preschoolers through teenagers makes her a valuable friend and administrator to our camp throughout the summer.

Look out for her canvassing the camp grounds with her signature warmth and smile.

Rabbi Shmaya Friedman is a spirited and fun loving dude. During the year, with his joyful personality, he heads up Chabad's extensive youth programming including Jew Crew and Chai Five.

Rabbi Shmaya who co-directs CGI with Aliza, uses his years in managerial experience to run and operate a smooth and safe summer program for our campers.

During the summer you will find him patrolling camp grounds with a Dunkin Iced Coffee in his hand. He is our on-site director and is available 24/7 for anything you may need.

He is also a die hard Yankees fan which we are still trying to forgive him for.
